1911 census shows Joseph working as a Hewer at the Coal Mine and living at No 5 Derwent Cottages, Medomsley, Consett with his parents, four brothers and four sisters. Joseph married Margaret Jane Martin in the June quarter of 1916, only months/weeks before he was killed.
