Enlisted Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Corporal 27/315, 27th Bn (Tyneside Irish) Northumberland Fusiliers. Died of wounds 25 March 1917, 29 years. Buried Habarcq Communal Cemetery Extension, Pas de Calais, France (V.J.5). (Both Memorials)

Richard marries Elizabeth Clifford in 1908.  The 1911 census shows Richard working as a Hewer at the Face and living at 38 Quaking Houses, South Moor with his In-laws, wife and two sons Thomas William and Richard.  They later have two daughters Annie and Martha.
