- 30 Elm Street - Matthew Coulson: Born 1892 West Kyo, Co Durham. Son of John & Hannah Coulson.Lance Corporal 19002, 20th Bn Durham Light Infantry. Enlisted 29 April 1914. Reported missing, regarded dead or died on or since 31 July 1917 for official purposes. Named on Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Living at address in 1911 and also recorded in service records in 1918. Parents move by 1920-1921. Some original service records found. (South Moor Park Memorial)
- 34 Elm Street - Robert Knight: Robert was living at this address with his parents in 1911 but records show his wife living at 23 Front Street, Lintz Colliery, Burnopfield at the time of his death. Born 26 Aug 1888 Bowden Close, Auckland. Son of John & Ellen Knight.Stoker 1st Class K/26183, Royal Navy, HMS Glatton. Lost 16 September 1918 on HMS Glatton. HMS Glatton suffered an explosion and fire whilst in Dover Harbour. Men were killed outright and others later died of burns and other injuries. They were unable to put out the fires so an order was given to scuttle the ship. A large number of the dead are buried together in Gillingham New Cemetery (Woodlands), Kent, Naval Reserves Graves 805 & 806 in 1930, including Robert Knight. (St George’s Church Memorial)
